As in the case of other ancient peoples such as the Egyptian's, ancient Peruvian's maintained a deep sense of life after death that led them to the development of complex funeral rites and burial paraphernalia for the purpose of saying farewell to the dead on their voyage to the afterlife.
The burial masks were used for centuries in ancient Peruvian cultures to complete the burial attire in which the deceased lords and dignitaries were inhumed.
Because of their high aesthetic quality, pre-Columbian masks have inspired numerous contemporary artistic expressions, as these ancient masks reflect civilizations at their peak of vitality.
Funerary masks were a form of representing natural qualities, personality and rank, and were an indispensable accesory in order to exhibit the lord to his people in a ceremonial manner before his final departure.
Peruvian Arts & Crafts -Lima, Perú- is an art workshop that tries to recover, through the recreation of traditional patterns and techniques, part of the experiences of our ancient peoples of Nasca, Chancay, Moche, Tiahuanaco, Lambayeque, etc. who created long lasting works that continue to impress us with their aesthetic sense.
